With good thinking, the mind by itself is an asset to anyone. We were born with a blank slate in our thought life. Our journey in life as we grow develops a system in our mind to we perceive, process and perform. This system becomes a set of templates that we naturally use in our everyday life. I have observed that true leaders have to undergo a mindset overhaul in order to achieve their greatest potential.
The essence of mindset overhaul is actually the process of change resulting in good thinking. It is taking the unproductive ideas, lifestyle, thoughts out of our system, and retain or taking what is correct, good and beneficial into ourselves. This is part of developing one’s self to be an effective leader.
The mind is the asset you can develop without money. – Mrs. Wharton, Mrs Wharton London Bakes and English Teas
Here are three areas you can develop through good thinking.
Good thinking develops a clear perception.
Life is a matter of perception. Whether in good or in bad times, perception places a good role. The real battle in here however is the way we take in things and the way they are presented to us. If we change our thoughts, we can change our feelings and our focus. Thus, it helps us sort things out when we receive them in our mind. A leader must have the right focus to materialize growth and influence.
Good thinking unclogs thought process.
More so, life is full of ideas, news, information that bombard us daily. Some cause paranoia and panic. Developing a good thinking skill can create a seamless process to our way of understanding piece by piece. This will lessen the mental fatigue that a leader always has. Leaders become more effective as they begin to process things from the light of opportunities and possibilities more than fear and uncertainties.
Good thinking creates excellent performance.
Having the right focus and a seamless mental process, we are gaining the momentum to perform better. Excellence becomes our language because leaders know that to excel means to offer our greatest potential at the table. Good thinking becomes a springboard of every leader. A leader thinks what is best for everyone.
One of the reasons people don’t achieve their dreams is that they desire to change their results without changing their thinking. – John Maxwell
A leader’s success does not come from a college degree or a family background, but rather it from the quality of his thoughts and the size of his thinking. Being a learner from John Maxwell who is a sought after international leadership guru, who is also a pastor, I want to leave this bible verse for us to kick off our good thinking journey.
Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart] – Philippians 4:8 AMP
