It’s only the first quarter of the year 2020. Yet, many things already happened. Some of the biggest news have been exploding in our midst. I am writing this to add hope online and to declutter fear among my readers. This is not to impose my belief nor to insinuate offense to anyone. This edition of Introspection is for those who are lifting their eyes towards God in this time and season. Continue reading if you are with me on this.
Though we appreciate and recognize the efforts of our government, public and private sectors, we are fixed to see that God is among us in these difficult times. Our position in these difficult times will determine our direction. Where are you positioned these days, in the war zone or in the worry zone?
Let me begin with this Bible verse.
So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose. Romans 8:28 (TPT)
Let us hammer this one truth. Yes, we are at war but we don’t have to worry. Rather, let us be a people of faith and facts. Do not be swayed from one side to another by news alone. Get the facts and raise your faith higher! To whose report are you going to align?
Whatever happens in this world, God is still sovereign. His intention though is ALL good and for the good of those who (1) love Him and (2) called for a purpose. If you are both, loving Him because He first loved you and being predestined to a purpose, you don’t have to worry. God’s got you over this season.
God has got you over this coronavirus pandemic.
While I believe in God’s sovereignty, I also believe in the power of prayer. Let us continue to pray against this pandemic. Pray for our front liners in the medical, local government, food and groceries, security and sanitary teams. If there is something we all can do in this enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) status, it is not to rebel and criticize one another but to pray for one another.
Since we first heard about you, we’ve kept you always in our prayers that you would receive the perfect knowledge of God’s pleasure over your lives, making you reservoirs of every kind of wisdom and spiritual understanding. – Colossians 1:9 (TPT)
This is the best time to pray for one another.
Before the ECQ in our area, I was praying to God and asked Him what can I do. I am so moved and inspired by God to appreciate and send encouragement to our frontline medical practitioners in Iloilo City. I realized I had no financial capabilities at that moment yet the following day God sent the provision to fulfill what I prayed without an announcement on Facebook. I was able to send a box of milk teas from Island Tea Co. (Read full story here)
Also, during the ECQ, I was praying again, and I was again moved to pray that God will raise a voice from the churches in Iloilo City to initiate a donation drive NOT just to support their members. But the churches will be the givers in this season and not just the hand-in receivers. This is the time where the church must become the church from which God said the abundance shall flow.
Before the day ended, I got a message from a pastor who wanted me to help in organizing a donation drive. This is now what we are doing under the campaign movement Give to Save. After we said “Yes, we will do this with God!”, provisions were just poured down! Every second is a miracle-working in the resources that the team receives to distribute. If you want to be part of this momentous campaign by churches in Iloilo City and Province, check out the private Facebook Group “Give To Save (Iloilo City).”
What is the best thing here, I knew that my part was not to be out there but to pray in here and help out online. Know your part in this season. Where can you be the most productive? Pray about it! Give somebody a smile. Lend some help to someone. Share the love of God. Preach the Gospel of Jesus. I said the Gospel. Everyone needs some love these days.
Do not succumb in the shadow of worry!
When in times everything seems so dark and gloomy, know this that God is with you. He is for you! This coronavirus has been a shadow for most of us. But hey! Shadow cannot touch you! God is your light amid this darkness. Run to Him! Raise your flag of faith and declare God’s peace.
Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me. – Psalm 23:4 (AMP)
Do you know why we should NOT worry?
Worry takes away the clarity in our mind on decision making. When worry kicks in, we become reactive. We move out of fear. And most of it, our decision becomes a superficial solution that does not resolve the problem at hand.
Worry cripples our creativity. Every time worry knocks at the door of our mind, we lose the sense of productivity. We lose the drive to accomplish anything. It strangulates us and leaves us helpless at one corner.
Worry blinds our direction. Whenever worry becomes the topic, you lose the authority on the wheel. Worry puts you in an unending maze. It will only drive around the bush all the time until you just give up. And we don’t want that!
“This is why I tell you to never be worried about your life, for all that you need will be provided, such as food, water, clothing—everything your body needs. Isn’t there more to your life than a meal? Isn’t your body more than clothing? – Matthew 6:25 (TPT)
God is with us at this hour! While we do not worry, we also take the initiative to filter what comes in our mind. With the advent of technology, we easily receive fake news from every side. But here’s my say to you.
Get the facts! Arm yourself with facts!
Do not believe right away. Many people will use this pandemic to lift their personal agenda. Many will use this virus to elevate their reputation. Many will use this time to confuse us. This is not the time to criticize.
A gullible person will believe anything, but a sensible person will confirm the facts. – Proverbs 14:15 (TPT)
Always confirm the facts! Only the truth, overwhelming, highlighted, magnified truth, can reduce the spread of fake news to zero. Having known the facts do not rob you of your faith. Rather, it gives you the upper hand to use and apply your faith.
Whether you believe it or not, we are at war but not against flesh and blood! In this war, we determine whether we are in the war zone or the worry zone. The war zone is for people who know what is happening, what must be done, and does what can be done.
Be obedient in the authority this time.
You cannot be in the war zone while you stay in the worry zone. The war zone is for those who seize victory. The war zone is for those who do not panic yet they prepare. The war zone is not for the misinformed. Those who win the battles are always in the war zone. They don’t just sulk in the quicksand of worry.
Let me end with this.
All eyes on Jesus. All hands on deck. – Heidi Baker (Hearts of Love 2020, Manila)
You are not alone in this battle against coronavirus. And you can do something this season. Pray about it. We will get to the other side of this together!
We are all in this together!
